So, how do you get your mini-dairy goat registered?

This page is to help you understand the registration application to make registration of your miniature dairy goat easy.

The application form below has each section numbered.  Here is an explanation of each section:

1. Breed - This will be the breed of Mini-Dairy goat that you are registering :

MiniAlpine, MiniMancha, MiniNubian, MiniOber, MiniTogg, or MiniSaanen.

2.  Here you mark whether you are applying for Experimental, American or Purebred status for your goat.  Choose:

Experimental if your kid is 1st or 2nd gen. or does NOT meet the breed standards.
American if your kid is 3rd generation or higher, AND they meet the breed standards.
Purebred if your kid is 6th generation or higher, AND they meet the breed standard,  AND there are no experimental animals for three generations (i.e their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are all Americans or Purebreds).
3. Check whether or not the animal meets the breed standards for it's breed.  See the Breed Standards page to determine if it does or does not meet the standards.  If it does not, make sure you register it as Experimental.
4. Date of Birth - The month, day and year this animal was born
5. Sex - Check 'Doe', 'Buck', or 'Wether'.  A wether is a castrated male.
6. # in Birth - Example: triplets with 2 doelings and 1 buckling - first blank would have '3', male blank would have '1' and female blank would have '2'.  Count still born kids.
7. Tattoo - this is proof of identity.  A herd specific tattoo goes in the right ear while a letter specifying year and an identifying number goes in the left ear.  For example: The 12th kid born in 2008 at the imaginary 'Alphabet' farm might have the tattoo: Right Ear ABC  Left Ear: Y12.   MiniMancha's are tattooed in the tail.  Goats can have a microchip in addition to or instead of a tattoo.
8. Name - The herdname of the breeder prefaces the name of your goat.  For example if your herd name is "Alphabet Farms" the goat's name would be "Alphabet Farms ____________________". The full name (including herdname) of your mini-dairy goat needs to be no more than 35 letters and spaces long.
9. Sire - Put the full registered name of the sire of your kid, his generation and registration number.  These can all be found on his registration papers.  MDGA will accept kids from sires registered with MDGA, TMGR, IDGR, ADGA, AGS, CGS, and NDGA.  Standard and Nigerian goats have a generation of '0'.
10. Owner (of sire) - If you did not own this buck at time of service, please include a Service Memo.  Check whether he was leased or not.
11. Dam - Put the full registered name of the dam of your kid, her generation and registration number.  These can all be found on her registration papers.  MDGA will accept kids from dams registered with MDGA, TMGR, IDGR, ADGA, AGS, CGS, and NDGA.  Standard and Nigerian goats have a generation of '0'.
12. Owner (of dam) at time of breeding - The owner of the doe at time of conception is considered the 'Breeder'.  Check whether the doe was leased or not.
13. Description - Provide a brief description of the color and markings of the goat.  Limit to 60 letters and spaces.
14. Horns - Check if the kid was disbudded, or if it is polled or horned
15. Ears - Check the description that best describes the ears on your goat.
Pendulous - Completely floppy Nubian style ears.
2/3rds drop - Somewhere between pendulous and airplane - partly floppy but not down enough to be pendulous.  Usually comes about halfway down the face.
Airplane  - ears that stick straight out to the sides.  Common for 1st generation MiniNubians.
Elf -
Have some cartilage and should be no longer than an inch long.  Acceptable ears for LaMancha does, but not bucks.
Gopher - Have no
cartilage but do have a ring of skin around the auditory canal - correct LaMancha ears.
Upright - Swiss and Nigerian style ears.
16. Breeder - owner of the dam at time of breeding.  May be different from the person who owns the doe at kidding time if the doe was sold after breeding.
17. Sold to - Only need to fill this out if the goat was sold prior to registration.  Include the date of sale.
18. Signature - The owner of kid at birth signs here (owner of the dam at time of kidding). This may be different from the Breeder.
19. Address - Address of signer in #18
Make sure to send in your registration fees and if either of your kids parents is a Nigerian or standard sized dairy goat, be sure to send copies of their registration papers.
